The French Bulldog, a lovable clown on four paws. The French Bulldog belongs to the Molosser family. It is descended from the English Bulldog: dogs of this breed were bred in the British Isles from the 13th century onwards. In the second half of the 19th century, within just a few years, it became an affectionate companion and working dog. The official color designation of this dog, “Blue Brindle,” inspired me to choose blue for this painting. In the dazzling sunlight, the coat shimmers blue, as does the eye’s waterline. In the soft, red-rich light of the setting sun on a summer evening, the hidden brown of the coat emerges.
